Joseph Edward Davies was an American diplomat and US ambassador to the USSR (1936–1938). He was the founder and honorary chairman of the National Council of American-Soviet Friendship. He was an advocate of the rapid opening of a second front and spoke very highly of the USSR in his book Mission to Moscow (1942). In 1943, Warner Brothers made a screen version of his book.
